Not only did God make two sexes,
but He made the two sexes
to be attracted to each other.
What is this gift of attraction God has given us?What is it, and how do we use it appropriately?Your attraction gift is as unique as your thumbprint.People are not all attracted to the same car or same hairstyle.Nor are they attracted to the same people.God has made us all unique and different and has given us different and unique attraction gifts.
The attraction gift works towards the opposite sex.
How many times we wondered whether there is something deficient about our christianity because we have been attracted to the opposite sex? They wish their attraction gift would dry up and go away! That is simple not true and will never happen.God has made the opposite sex attractive to us,and He has made us attractive to the opposite sex. Many christians believe that admitting to being attracted to the opposite sex is tantamount to setting themselves up to sin.
Why do people react like this? Why do they think there is a direct casual link between attraction and sin. What it means is that when we meet someone,we can be either attracted or not attracted to some's physical features.God gave us the ability to be attracted to the physical characteristics of another person. Its all part of His plan for us.Bodies are ok.They are not sin objects. They are not lust objects. No body God has made is a cause for sin.
There is NO Word for LOVE in the New Testament that has anything whatsoever to do with LUST,NOT even A HINT or A SUGGESTION of it.
We need to wake up.We do not take our directions from the world;we take them from the Word of God.Physical attraction is not the same as lust.Lust is not normal.Unfortunately, too many christians have concluded that because about everyone lusts it must be normal.
What exactly is lust?Lust is degrading another person to the sum of their body parts. It is seeing them as less than the unique and complete person God created them to be.Lust is a sin,an aberration.Lust is attraction plus the desire for selfish gratifiction at the expense of another human being. In our culture we have elevated the value of physical attractiveness beyond what its value actually is.In the world,a person is worth dating,or even marrying, solely because of how he or she looks. But this is so contrary to the way God wants us to view people.
If God has planned for us to be attracted to the nonphysical parts of a person, does it mean that they way a person looks on the outside doesnt matter? No.We have already seen that God has given us the ability to be attracted to the outside of a person, but if we stop there and do not also check whether we are attracted to the inside of the person,we will end up shortchanging the person and ourselves. That attraction should never eclipse our attraction for the person living inside.
When this attraction gift is used appropriately,we can be sure attraction will not lead us to sin.Rather it can lead us into deep, fulfilling, and rewarding relationships with other people.
