How to Change the World?

A little (A)ct of (R)andom (K)indness

Woah! This simple message speaks volume in my heart right now. After officially watching Evan Almighty the movie for the third time,I still love the movie.Why?No..not because i am a crazy animal lover,No..not because i enjoy watching comedy but rather I love the realization and truth behind this movie.

The message of the ark is LOVE.Yeah..that simple but we humans love to complicate things.Actually just like you,me or Evan in the story,we need reminders all the time.Faith and conviction sometimes come after countless knocks on the door from God that the path we are heading is wrong. We often shout out.."God,where are you?I need you,why is my prayers not answered?"Aha..you might not see it,but your prayers are moving one stone to another and the mountain block will collapse one day.

Evan prayed for help to change the world. And God heard him.But the concept of changing the world in our humanly opinions differ 360 degree different from our almighty God.His ways are greater than we can ever imagine. Instead God instructed Evan to build an ark and said the flood will be coming.

At this very thought,if i was in Evan position, I would first laugh off the idea..second,i have never experienced flood,i might pack my bag and flee to another country,or maybe just pray for God to change his mind.See!My concept like Evan was,Flood only comes from rain and it has nothing to do with me!So why bother building an ark?

Next,Evan said..I have many things to do..my plans to do this and that...realized everything now is about me,me and Me!Gosh..when I saw that scene,I was greatly put to shame. And the best part was,God just laughed it off when Evan spoke about his so called "great"plans.

Soon Evan realized it was no laughing matter when animals in pairs followed him and all day he saw Gen 6.14: "So make yourself an ark of cypress wood."He finally submitted to God's will. And like they say, being a christian is never easy..its impossible!

His habit of looking groomed and good did not work out when his beard grew longer and longer. And God even surprised him with a new wardrobe.A robe literally.Ahaha...its really funny how he actually enjoys his new look while his family and friends thought he was mad.As the bible says," He who lives in you is greater than the one who lives in the world."

One by one, animals continued to follow him while humans left him.Till oneday, God appeared to his wife and this conversation was my favourite part of the movie. Looking glum,Evan's wife sulked and sighed when God asked her why?Next God said, the story of ark is love. You see the animals walking in pairs, side by side to support and help one another.God went on to say,"If someone prayed for peace, will God give him a feeling of peace or an opportunity to make peace?""If someone prayed for courage, will God give him a feeling of courage or an opportunity to be courageous?"And last he asked,"If someone prayed for the family to be closer, will God give her the opportunity to be close to her family?"

Praise God for such a wise wakeup call. And in the end,the ark was built but where was the flood? As everyone anticipated for a heavy downpour, miles away, the cracks on the dam was at work. And very soon, the dam crashed and the magnificent lake poured into large masses of water.Whoosh woosh..everyone sped into the ark and all was saved.

You see.God indeed helped Evan to change the world. His obedience to God saved lives and prevent more destruction to nature. What is the challenge God is asking you or me today?Could it be an ark of smiling to your neighbour, an ark of throwing away the litter in the bin,or an ark of donating to the blind lady who sells tissue? All could be done with an act of love and kindness.Amen.
